Greenheart, Chlorocardium rodiei, also known by its synonyms Nectandra rodioei, Cogwood, Demerara Ispingo, Moena, Sipiri, Bebeeru, Bibiru, is a remarkable tropical hardwood tree native to South America, specifically in the Amazon Basin and the Guianas. This stunning handcoloured lithograph by Hanhart, after a botanical illustration by David Blair, was published as part of Robert Bentley and Henry Trimen's "Medicinal Plants" in London, 1880. The Greenheart tree is renowned for its exceptional durability and resistance to decay, making it highly sought-after for various applications, including shipbuilding, construction, and even the manufacture of high-quality musical instruments. Its heartwood is a rich, dark green color, which gives the tree its name. The Greenheart tree can grow up to 30 meters tall and has a straight trunk with a smooth, gray bark.
