Born into a theatrical family, Irene followed in the footsteps of her elder sister Violet and embarked on a successful career in acting that spanned over five decades. Born on October 22, 1872, in London, Irene Vanbrugh made her stage debut at the age of 17, playing the role of "Lady Macbeth" in a production of "Macbeth" at the Royalty Theatre. Her natural comedic talent soon became apparent, and she went on to establish herself as a leading comedienne, known for her quick wit and engaging stage presence. The Haymarket Theatre, located in the heart of London's West End, was one of the most prestigious theatres in the city during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
