This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Earl of Durham Public House, located in the vibrant and historic area of Kings Cross in London. The pub, with its ornate brickwork and distinctive signage, once stood proudly at 27-29 Caledonian Road, N1 0DA. The image, taken in an era before digital technology, transports us back in time to the mid-twentieth century. The back of the print reveals the trading record for the Earl of Durham, providing a fascinating glimpse into its history. We learn that the pub was in operation from at least 1934 and continued to serve its loyal customers until 1961. The Hoare and Company Limited, which operated the pub, is not mentioned, adding to the sense of mystery and intrigue. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Earl of Durham had closed its doors for the last time and was demolished.
