EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the exterior of the Prince Albert pub, located in the vibrant and historic neighborhood of Kingsland in London. Established in the early 20th century, the pub was once a beloved local watering hole and gathering place for the community. The image showcases the corner of the building, with its ornate brickwork and distinctive signage, which proudly displays the name "Prince Albert" and the emblem of a royal crest. The pub, which was not affiliated with the Hoare and Company Limited, had a rich trading history, as evidenced by the back of this print. According to the record, the Prince Albert was in operation as early as 1934 and remained open until 1958. The print, from the extensive collection of Mary Evans Picture Library, offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back in time to an era when the pub was a hub of activity and community connection. Unfortunately, as of July 2018, the Prince Albert pub had closed its doors and was no longer in existence. The building, like so many others, was demolished, marking the end of an era and leaving behind memories and stories of the past. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the history and character that once defined this corner of Kingsland, London.
