EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the historic Prince of Wales pub in Camberwell, London, as it stood prior to its demolition in July 2018. Located at SE5 9QR, the pub, also known as the "Old Prince of Wales," was a cherished local institution in the Hoare and Company Limited stable of public houses. The image presents a striking, frontal view of the building, with its red brick facade, ornate architectural details, and the distinctive "Prince of Wales" sign proudly displayed above the entrance. The Prince of Wales was a popular gathering place for the local community, offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere where friends could meet over a pint and reminisce about days gone by. The pub's rich history can be traced back to the late 19th century, making it a beloved fixture in Camberwell's social landscape for generations. As the photograph reveals, the pub's exterior boasted intricate stonework, decorative arches, and a well-worn, inviting appearance that spoke to its long history and the many stories it held within its walls. Sadly, in the summer of 2018, the Prince of Wales was demolished, and a new pub was built on the same site. This poignant image serves as a reminder of the pub's storied past and the memories it holds for the people of Camberwell.
