EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the timeless charm of the Rose & Thistle Public House in Camberwell, London. Established in the early 20th century, the pub, affectionately known as a 'boozer' or 'local,' has been a cherished part of the community for generations. The image shows the corner of the pub, its red brick facade adorned with the iconic rose and thistle emblem. The pub's history is rich and complex, with various tenants and owners over the years. As of July 2018, the pub had a trading record dating back to 1934 and 1961. However, in late 2009, the building was illegally converted into the London College of Theology, receiving retrospective planning permission in November 2010. The pub was later taken over by Mount Horeb Victorious Church in 2014. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the history and character of this beloved Camberwell institution. The back of the print includes a detailed trading record, providing a fascinating insight into the pub's past and the many stories it could tell.
