This evocative photograph captures the facade of the Rosemary Branch Public House in West Norwood, London, as it looked in the 1950s. The image, taken in 1951, shows the charming old building with its distinctive tiled sign and ornate brickwork, standing proudly on the corner of Knight's Hill and Rosendale Road. The Rosemary Branch, which was not part of the Charrington and Company Limited, was a beloved local institution that had served the community since at least 1938, as evidenced by the trading record detailed on the reverse of this print. Sadly, the pub was demolished in 1975 to make way for the extension of the Norwood bus depot. This photograph offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when the Rosemary Branch was a cherished watering hole and social hub for the residents of West Norwood. The image is a poignant reminder of the history and character that has been lost to the relentless march of progress.
