EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite oval portrait captures the elegant and regal presence of Princess Henry of Prussia, nee Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine, in the autumn of 1906. The Princess, who was born on March 6, 1866, in Darmstadt, Germany, was the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. She married Prince Henry of Prussia, the eldest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, on October 27, 1888, in a grand ceremony held in the Chapel of the Palace of Charlottenlund in Potsdam. In this stunning photograph, Princess Henry of Prussia is depicted wearing a low-neckline square neckline gown, which was a popular fashion trend during the Edwardian and Victorian eras. The Princess's elegant profile is accentuated by her delicate neckline, which frames her long, flowing hair. She wears a beautiful necklace, adding an air of sophistication and refinement to her appearance. The Princess is shown in a thoughtful and contemplative pose, with her hands folded in her lap and her gaze fixed on an unseen point in the distance. Her regal bearing and poised demeanor speak to her status as a member of the Prussian royal family and her role as the wife of a future monarch. This photograph was published in a popular magazine in September 1906, providing a glimpse into the private world of the Prussian royal family and offering a glimpse into the elegant and refined fashion trends of the early 20th century.
