The Princess, who was born on March 6, 1866, in Darmstadt, Germany, was the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse and Princess Alice of the United Kingdom. She married Prince Henry of Prussia, the eldest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II, on October 27, 1888, in a grand ceremony held in the Chapel of the Palace of Charlottenlund in Potsdam.
