1. Title: "Princess Marie Caroline Adelaide Francoise Leopoldine of Orleans (1813-1839): A Regal Portrait from the Historical Costumes of France" This exquisite handcoloured lithograph showcases Princess Marie Caroline Adelaide Francoise Leopoldine of Orleans, also known as Marie Christine, who was born on October 15, 1813, in Paris, France. Daughter of King Louis Philippe I of France and Marie Amélie of the Two Sicilies, Marie Caroline was a member of the House of Bourbon and a granddaughter of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. In this stunning portrait, the young princess is depicted wearing an elegant and intricately designed dress, typical of the early 19th century. The dress features a high neckline, long sleeves, and a full skirt adorned with delicate floral patterns. The bodice is fitted and accentuated by a sash that cinches her waist, while the skirt is gathered and falls gracefully to the ground. Marie Caroline's hairstyle is also noteworthy, with her long, curly locks arranged in intricate braids and adorned with pearls and other ornate accessories. Her expression is serene and regal, reflecting the grace and poise that were expected of members of the French royal family. This portrait was created as part of the "Costumes Historiques de la France" series, published by Le Bibliophile Jacob under the direction of Paul Lacroix in Paris in 1852. The series aimed to document and preserve the historical costumes of France, making it an invaluable resource for scholars, historians, and fashion enthusiasts alike. Marie Caroline's life was marked by tragedy and heartache. She married Prince Paul of Württemberg in 1830, but their union was short-lived as Paul died just three years later. Marie Caroline passed away on March 15, 1839, at the young age of 25. This beautiful portrait serves as a poignant reminder of her beauty and the elegance of the era in which she lived.
