The Great American Mastodon was a massive, elephant-like creature that roamed the American continents during the Pleistocene epoch, approximately 11,000 to 17,000 years ago. This colossal beast stood about 10 feet tall at the shoulder and weighed up to 11 tons. Its skeleton, as depicted in this engraving, reveals the impressive size and structure of this extinct creature.
