This sketch depicts the Duke of Cambridge pub, a cherished watering hole located in the heart of Putney, London. The pub, with its rustic charm and inviting ambiance, was a beloved institution for local residents and visitors alike. The main side of the print showcases the pub's quintessential British exterior, complete with its distinctive sign and red brick facade. However, the back of the print tells a different story. Sadly, as of July 2018, the Duke of Cambridge pub, located at 131 Upper Richmond Road, Putney, London SW15 3RP, was no more. Demolished for residential redevelopment around the turn of the century, the pub, which was once a part of the Hoare and Company Limited, has been replaced by modern structures. Despite its demise, the memory of the Duke of Cambridge pub lives on through images like this one. The pub, which was not affiliated with the Hoare and Company Limited, was a public house, bar, or "boozer" as it's colloquially known, that offered a warm and welcoming atmosphere to all who entered. It was a place where friends could gather, stories could be shared, and a pint of your favorite brew could be enjoyed. Though the building may be gone, the spirit of the Duke of Cambridge pub continues to resonate with those who remember it fondly. This sketch serves as a poignant reminder of a cherished piece of Putney's history.
