This exquisitely hand-colored steel engraving depicts the extinct White Urus, also known as the Hamilton breed of wild Scottish cattle. The White Urus, scientifically classified as Taurus urus or Bos scoticus, was a large and distinctive breed of wild cattle that once roamed the Scottish Highlands. The image, taken from Sir William Jardine's Naturalist's Library in Edinburgh, published in 1836, was illustrated by James Stewart and engraved by Lizars.
