Commissioned in 1760, it was built in the London workshops of Samuel Butler. As the coach is suspended from braces, it lacks more modern comfort. The coach is managed by 4 postilions, 9 walking grooms (one of whom walks behind the coach), 6 footmen, and 4 Yeoman of the Guard carrying their long partisans. Eight of the grooms walk beside the horses. The more ornately-dressed footmen (pictured here) walk beside the body of the coach. Date: circa 1930s

1. A Grand Procession of History: The British Royal Family's Golden State Coach The Golden State Coach, a magnificent and ornate carriage used for the coronation processions of British monarchs, is a breathtaking sight to behold. Commissioned in 1760, this coach was built in the London workshops of Samuel Butler and decorated with intricate paintings by Giovanni Cipriani. The upper back panel of the coach is adorned with the royal arms, ornamented with the Order of St. George and the floral emblems of Great Britain. As the coach lacks modern comforts, it requires an impressive entourage to transport the monarch. The coach is suspended from braces and managed by a team of 4 postilions, 9 walking grooms (one of whom walks behind the coach), 6 footmen, and 4 Yeoman of the Guard carrying their long partisans. Eight of the grooms walk beside the horses. The more ornately-dressed footmen, as depicted in this photograph from the 1930s, walk beside the body of the coach. The Golden State Coach has been a part of numerous royal coronations, adding grandeur and spectacle to the pageantry of the event. The coach's intricate design, rich history, and the regal procession it leads make it a cherished symbol of British royalty and tradition. This photograph, taken in the 1930s, offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the coach in all its magnificent glory.
