Echinoderm Echinodermata Fossil Fossilised Shot Specimen Studioshot Invertebrata

EDITORS COMMENTS
This fossil print showcases the intricately preserved remains of a Globoblastus sp. blastoid, an ancient invertebrate belonging to the class Blastoidea within the phylum Blastozoa and the larger group Echinodermata. The Blastoids were small, stemmed echinoderms characterized by a pyramidal to globular calyx, which housed the soft body parts of the animal. The fossilized specimen in this photograph is displayed against a subtle black background, allowing the delicate details of the fossil to take center stage. The calyx, with its intricate network of pores and tubular structures, is particularly well-preserved, revealing the complex anatomy of this ancient invertebrate. The arms, which are not visible in this image, would have extended from the base of the calyx and likely bore small tentacles used for feeding and attachment. The Blastoids lived during the Ordovician and Silurian periods, around 488 to 416 million years ago. They were among the first echinoderms to develop a calcareous skeleton, which contributed to their successful adaptation to life on the sea floor. This fossil print provides a unique window into the ancient world, offering a glimpse into the intricate anatomy and evolutionary history of the Blastoids and the larger phylum of Echinodermata. This studio shot captures the essence of the fossil's beauty and preservation, inviting us to contemplate the rich history of life on our planet and the intricacies of the natural world.
