This stunning print depicts the Great Seal of Edward VI, the young monarch who ruled England and Ireland from 1547 until his untimely death in 1553. Edward's reign was marked by significant political and religious changes, as he sought to assert his independence from his mother and the influence of the Catholic Church. The obverse side of the seal shows Edward in regal attire, holding a scepter and orb, with the legend "EDWARDUS VI DEI GRATIA REX ANGLIAE FRANCORUM ET HIBERNIAE" (Edward VI, by the Grace of God, King of England, France, and Ireland) inscribed around the edge. The reverse side features the Tudor emblem of a rose between two fleurs-de-lis, symbolizing the union of the houses of Lancaster and Tudor, with the legend "D.G. HIB. ET FRANC. ET HIB.
