VISUAL DESCRIPTION
This is a historical advertisement for the Third London Aviation Meeting, which took place on Saturday, August 3rd, and the Bank Holiday, Monday, August 5th, in 1912. The event featured races every Saturday and holiday under Royal Aero Club rules at 3:30 p. m. , weather permitting. There were also special exhibition and passenger flights every Thursday, Saturday, Sunday afternoon and evening till dusk. The venue was located six miles from Marble Arch and could be reached by tube, bus, tram or train. Admission prices varied from enclosures to stands with different rates for adults (1s. and 2s. 6d. ) and children (half price). Passenger flights started from £2. Highlights of the program included relay races; combined speed handicaps; cross-country handicap for seaplanes; altitude contest; grand speed handicap limited to machines that have not won over £100 in prizes; exhibition flights; as well as a special feature termed "Novelty. " The advertisement provides contact information including an address (London Aerodrome Hendon N. W. ), proprietors' names (The London Aerodrome Aviation Co. , Ltd. ), telephone numbers (Hendon 669 & Kingsbury 198), telegraph office location ("Kingsbury Junction"), along with specific telegraphic codes used for communication. It's interesting to note that there was a penalty against third party claims of £1000 indemnity per making flight losses non-stop across country illicit. Lastly, it mentions specially reduced terms available to Naval and Military pupils who wished to attend the event.
