EYES OF THE FLEET - A Hawker Osprey, two-seat Fleet Fighter Reconnaissance biplane (Rolls-Royce "Kestrel" engine), taking off the deck of a British aircraft carrier. Designed to operate as one of the numerous types required for the many tasks of modern naval aviation, this versatile biplane served both in reconnaissance and light bombing roles. Additionally, it could be equipped with floats for use as a catapult-launched spotter or even configured as a night fighter. The Royal Air Force's Army Cooperation Squadrons also used the Osprey for communication and training.
