EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning image captures the ethereal beauty and grace of Alexandra, Princess of Wales, on her wedding day on March 10, 1863. The Princess, who was born Princess Alexandra of Denmark, married the future King Edward VII of the United Kingdom in a grand ceremony held at St. James's Palace in London. Alexandra's bridal dress, designed by the renowned fashion designer Madame Vestris, was a true masterpiece of the 1860s. The dress was made of ivory satin, trimmed with fine lace and adorned with intricate embroidery and beading. The bodice featured a high neckline, long sleeves, and a fitted waist, while the full skirt was gathered into a voluminous train. The Princess's bridal veil was made of Brussels lace and was held in place by a diamond and pearl diadem, a gift from her mother-in-law, Queen Victoria. The Princess completed her bridal ensemble with a pair of diamond and pearl earrings and a matching necklace, also gifts from the Queen. The wedding of Alexandra and Edward was a grand affair, attended by members of the British royal family and high society from around the world. The couple's union marked the beginning of a long and happy marriage, which lasted until Edward's death in 1910. This photograph, taken on the Princess's wedding day, offers a glimpse into the opulence and grandeur of royal weddings in the 19th century. The intricate details of Alexandra's bridal dress, the elegant setting, and the regal bearing of the young Princess all combine to create a timeless and captivating image.
