EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the BAC 167 Strikemaster Mk82A, registration G-SOAF, with the distinctive markings of the Strikemaster Flying Club. The Strikemaster, manufactured by British Aerospace, is a twin-engine, jet-powered advanced trainer and light attack aircraft, which was originally developed for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and the Royal Saudi Air Force. G-SOAF, serial number PS.376, was previously operated by the Royal Air Force of Oman, and later the Sultan of Oman's Air Force. The Strikemaster served in the Middle East from the late 1980s until its retirement from military service around 2005. In this image, the Strikemaster is depicted in its vibrant and intricately designed livery, which includes the Omani national flag and the emblem of the Sultan of Oman's Air Force. The aircraft's powerful engines are visible as it taxis along the runway, ready for takeoff. The Strikemaster was a versatile aircraft that saw extensive use in various roles, including training, counter-insurgency operations, and close air support. Its advanced avionics and weapons systems made it a formidable asset for military forces around the world. After its military service, G-SOAF was acquired by the Strikemaster Flying Club, where it continues to serve as a cherished piece of aviation history and a reminder of the aircraft's impressive capabilities. This photograph captures a moment in time, showcasing the Strikemaster's enduring legacy in the world of aviation.
