EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures a moment in time featuring three brothers of Queen Mary of Teck, the consort of King George V of the United Kingdom. Seated in the center is Prince Adolphus of Teck, 1st Marquess of Cambridge (1868-1927), who was the eldest brother of Queen Mary. With a regal and serious expression, Adolphus dons a formal military uniform, reflecting his military career. To his right, Prince Alexander of Teck, 1st Earl of Athlone (1874-1957), is seen with a thoughtful gaze. He served as the fourth Governor-General of the Union of South Africa from 1925 to 1931. His impressive tenure in this role made him the first member of the British Royal Family to serve as the head of state of a Dominion outside Europe. On the left side of the photograph, Prince Francis of Teck (1870-1910) sits with a gentle smile. He was the youngest brother of Queen Mary and was a beloved figure in the royal family. Although not as well-known as his siblings, Prince Francis played an essential role in the lives of his family and the British monarchy. The photograph, taken circa 1900, offers a rare glimpse into the lives of these remarkable brothers, who were closely connected to the British monarchy and played significant roles in shaping history. Their bond as siblings and their dedication to their respective duties are evident in this striking image.
