Edward VII's yacht, Britannia

The Royal yacht, Britannia taken in 1909 during the reign of Edward VII. Originally commissioned by Edward when he was Prince of Wales from G. L Watson, one of the finest yacht designers of his time, the yacht had a successful racing career before being used as a crusing yacht by Edward and Queen Alexandra. The yacht cruised around the coast of Britain to the popular acclaim of the people, and was often used during visits of foreign royalty or statemen. After the death of Edward VII, the yacht's racing career was revived after George V ordered a re-fit. The yacht was broken up at George V's instructions after his death in 1936

This stunning print captures the majestic Royal yacht, Britannia, during the reign of King Edward VII in 1909. Originally commissioned by Edward when he was still the Prince of Wales, this magnificent vessel was designed by G.L Watson, one of the most renowned yacht designers of his time. Britannia had a successful racing career before being used as a cruising yacht by Edward and Queen Alexandra. The royal couple sailed around the coast of Britain to the delight and admiration of the people. The yacht also played host to numerous foreign royalty and statesmen during its illustrious history. After Edward VII's passing, George V ordered a re-fit for Britannia which saw its racing career revived once again. However, following George V's death in 1936, it was with great sadness that Britannia was broken up according to his instructions. This print is not just a beautiful snapshot from history but also serves as a reminder of an era where elegance and grandeur were synonymous with British royalty.
