She writes: ?Like you, I still have moments of sadness about Lady Duff Gordon and continue to sing her praises on every occasion when people talk about these marvellous designers in Hollywood?. She adds: ?They don?t design - they just steal from one another and magazines, etc. Some day before long I am going to write a story about a real dress designer ? and one that I admired from the bottom of my heart?. She also writes: ?Just had dinner with Bette Davis ? read the awful script they wanted her to accept. I quite agree with her for rejecting it. She is also very tired. Blinkie.? Date: 1938

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this previously unseen photograph, we find a letter written by Ann Fielder, an actress, to Laura Mabel Francatelli, a first-class passenger on the RMS Titanic and personal secretary to Lady Lucile Duff Gordon. The letter, dated 5th May 1938, was penned on United Artists Studio Corporation notepaper in Hollywood. Fielder begins by expressing her shared feelings of sadness regarding Lady Duff Gordon and her continued admiration for the designer. She goes on to lament the lack of originality in Hollywood, stating that designers merely steal from one another and magazines. Fielder expresses her intention to write a story about a genuine dress designer whom she deeply admires. The letter also contains gossip about a dinner Fielder had with Bette Davis, during which they discussed a displeasing script offered to Davis. Fielder agrees with Davis' decision to reject the script and shares her exhaustion. The envelope and typewritten letter are dated 1938, and the airmail stamp on the envelope indicates that it was sent from the USA. This snapshot of Hollywood in the 1930s provides a glimpse into the lives of two women connected by their experiences on the Titanic and their careers in the film industry.
