EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures the McDonnell F-101B Voodoo 57-0351, which served with the Canadian Armed Forces as McDonnell F-101B-90-MC Voodoo 101029. Originally part of the 444th Fighter Interceptor Squadron in the United States Air Force at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina, this aircraft was transferred to 416 Squadron CAF in 1970/71. The image shows the moment when this powerful fighter jet arrived at RCAF Chatham in New Brunswick for its new assignment with 416 Squadron CAF. Unfortunately, its service came to a tragic end on September 15, 1983, when a wake encounter caused a controller pitch up at low altitude leading to a crash. Thankfully, both crew members were able to eject safely. This photograph is not just a visual record of an aircraft's journey but also serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges faced by military personnel in their line of duty. The sleek design and formidable presence of the McDonnell F-101B Voodoo are beautifully captured in this timeless image from The Peter Butt Aviation Collection. It stands as a tribute to all those who have served and sacrificed while flying these incredible machines in defense of their countries.
