EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage print captures the SE-ABA Lappland, a Fokker F.XXII airliner operated by A.B. Aerotransport Swedish Airlines in the 1930s. The aircraft was known for its capacity to carry up to 22 passengers on its route from Malmo, Sweden to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. However, tragedy struck on June 9, 1936 when the plane crashed into a house during an emergency landing after three of its four engines lost power during takeoff. Despite the heroic efforts of the pilot and crew, two of the eleven passengers onboard lost their lives in the tragic accident. This image serves as a poignant reminder of the risks involved in early aviation and highlights the bravery and skill of those who took to the skies in these pioneering aircraft. The SE-ABA Lappland may have met a tragic end, but it will forever be remembered as part of aviation history. Its story is one that reminds us of both the excitement and dangers that come with air travel, making this print a powerful testament to an era long gone but not forgotten.
