King of the Seas," Currie founded the Castle line in 1862, which revolutionized transportation between Europe and India with its fleet of fast clipper ships. The success of the Castle line brought immense wealth to Currie, but he was not one to hoard his fortune. He used it to better the lives of those around him. Currie's philanthropic endeavors were vast, ranging from building schools and hospitals to funding scholarships and supporting charities. In addition to his charitable work, he also served as a Member of Parliament for Glasgow Bridgeton from 1885 to 1892.
