EDITORS COMMENTS
King of the Seas," Currie founded the Castle line in 1862, which revolutionized transportation between Europe and India with its fleet of fast clipper ships. The success of the Castle line brought immense wealth to Currie, but he was not one to hoard his fortune. He used it to better the lives of those around him. Currie's philanthropic endeavors were vast, ranging from building schools and hospitals to funding scholarships and supporting charities. In addition to his charitable work, he also served as a Member of Parliament for Glasgow Bridgeton from 1885 to 1892. In this photograph, Sir Donald Currie is seen with his wife, Margaret Miller, on the deck of one of his ships. The ship's sails are fully hoisted, and the water is calm, creating a serene and picturesque scene. The image captures the essence of Currie's life - a man of the sea, who amassed great wealth and used it to make a positive impact on the world around him." Sir Donald Currie's legacy extends beyond the shipping industry, and this photograph serves as a reminder of his significant contributions to Scottish history and philanthropy. The image of him with his wife on the deck of a ship represents not only his successful business ventures but also the love and partnership that supported him throughout his life.
