EDITORS COMMENTS
In this beautiful photograph, taken around 1910, we find the Romanian Royal Family gathered together in a warm and loving display of familial affection. At the center stands King Carol I of Romania (1839-1914) and his beloved Queen Elisabeth, also known as Pauline Elisabeth Ottilie Luise of Wied (1843-1916). The King, dressed in a formal suit, exudes an air of regal authority, while his wife, adorned in an elegant gown, looks radiant and serene. Surrounding them are their children and grandchildren, who add a sense of vitality and joy to the scene. To the King's right stands his eldest son, the future King Ferdinand (Ferdinand Viktor Albert Meinrad) (1865-1927), and his wife, Marie (1875-1938). Ferdinand, wearing a military uniform, and Marie, in a stylish hat and dress, are the proud parents of the next generation of Romanian monarchs. To the Queen's left, we find their youngest children, Crown Prince Carol II (1893-1953), Princess Elisabeth (1894-1956), and Princess Maria (1900-1961). The future King Carol II, dressed in a smart suit, stands tall and confident, while his sisters, Elisabeth and Maria, look playful and mischievous in their dresses. This photograph captures a moment in time when the Romanian Royal Family was at the height of its power and influence. It is a poignant reminder of the close-knit relationships that existed within the royal dynasty and the enduring legacy they left behind. The photograph is a testament to the love, unity, and strength of the Romanian monarchy during a period of great change and transformation in European history.
