EDITORS COMMENTS
This vibrant lantern slide depicts the Musée d'ETHNOGRAPHIE du Trocadéro, an anthropological museum established in Paris in 1878. The museum was a significant part of the 1889 Exposition Universelle, or World's Fair, held in Paris to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille. The museum, housed in the Trocadéro Palace, showcased cultural artifacts from around the world and was the first of its kind in France. The Exposition Universelle was a time of great innovation and architectural marvels, with the Eiffel Tower being the most famous symbol of the event. The Musée d'ETHNOGRAPHIE du Trocadéro remained open until 1935 when the Trocadéro Palace was demolished. This slide, part of the Boswell Collection, offers a glimpse into the rich history of the Paris Exhibition of 1889 and the importance of cultural exploration during the late 19th century.
