EDITORS COMMENTS
This collection of nine polyphotos, taken circa 1942, captures the poignant moments before a Canadian Corps Fire-fighter, a member of the Corps of Canadian Fire-fighters (CCCF), bid farewell to his homeland and embarked on his journey to serve overseas. The CCCF, also known as the Volunteer Corps of Canadian Fire-fighters and simply as Canadian Fire-fighters, played a crucial role in supporting the British forces during World War II, stationed in England between 1942 and 1945. In these images, we see the firefighter in his element, at sites around Ottawa, as he prepared to leave Canada. The two firemen, dressed in their uniforms and holding hoses, exude a sense of camaraderie and determination. The fire trucks in the background, with their distinctive red and gold insignia, serve as a reminder of the vital role these brave men would play in the war effort on the 2nd front. The CCCF was a unique force, with its members volunteering their time and expertise to provide emergency support to the military. These 1940s images offer a glimpse into the history of this important chapter in Canadian military history, as the firefighters left their families and communities behind to answer the call to duty. The images evoke a sense of pride, patriotism, and sacrifice, as the firefighters prepared to make a difference on the world stage.
