Postcard from 1910 with various views of Wanstead Park. Part of Epping Forest, Wanstead Park is situated in Wanstead, in North East London and was originally the grounds for one of the countrys finest stately homes, Wanstead House. The house was demolished in 1824 and the grounds were transformed into a 140 acre municipal park under the auspices of the Corporation of London in 1882. Today, it is Grade II listed and a few original features from the landscaped gardens remain such as the Grotto (pictured top left).

EDITORS COMMENTS
Wanstead Park: A Scenic Edwardian Retreat in the Heart of North East London (1910) Wanstead Park, situated in the tranquil suburbs of Wanstead in North East London, offers a captivating glimpse into the past through this charming 1910 postcard. The park, which covers an area of 140 acres, was once the grounds for one of the country's finest stately homes, Wanstead House. The elegant residence, with its impressive gardens, was a popular destination for the wealthy and aristocratic classes. However, the house was demolished in 1824, leaving behind only memories and a few remnants of its former grandeur. The Corporation of London, recognizing the value of preserving this beautiful green space, transformed the grounds into a municipal park in 1882. Today, Wanstead Park is a Grade II listed site, cherished by locals and visitors alike. This postcard captures the essence of Wanstead Park in the early 20th century. The top left image showcases the picturesque Grotto, a surviving original feature from the landscaped gardens. The serene ponds, with their ornamental water features, are a popular attraction for wildlife and offer a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. The scenic views of Wanstead Park depicted in this postcard transport us back to an era of elegance and tranquility, inviting us to imagine the grandeur of Wanstead House and the enjoyment its grounds provided to generations past.
