This exquisite photograph captures the ethereal beauty and grace of Princess Alice, Duchess of Hesse-Darmstadt (1843-1878). Born as the third child and second daughter of Queen Victoria, Alice was raised in the royal household and was known for her kind and compassionate nature. In 1862, she married Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse-Darmstadt, and the union produced eight children, including Tsarina Alix of Russia.
