Princess Marie Jose of Belgium
MARIA JOSE OF BELGIUM (1906-2001) Wife of Umberto of Savoy, Prince of Piedmont, and daughter of Albert of Belgium. Pictured in The Tatler at the age of eight, as a royal refugee after she and her brothers had travelled to Britain during the early weeks of the First World War. Princess Marie Jose was a photogenic symbol of Brave Little Belgium and a poster girl for the Allied causes during the war and subsequently her photograph featured frequently in illustrated magazines.
