Born in Coate, Wiltshire, Jefferies was educated in the local schools and later apprenticed to a solicitor in Chippenham. Despite his growing reputation as a writer, Jefferies struggled financially, and he died at the young age of 39, leaving behind a body of work that continues to inspire and captivate readers today.
