Under Roddam's command, the squadron played a crucial role in defending British interests during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). One of Roddam's most notable achievements came during the Battle of Dogger Bank in 1781, where he successfully repelled a Dutch fleet attempting to invade Britain. His victory earned him the title "Hero of the Dogger Bank." Roddam's career came to an end in 1808, when he retired from active service. He passed away in 1809, leaving behind a legacy as a respected and accomplished British naval commander.
