Ricardo was a renowned British engineer and physicist, who made groundbreaking contributions to the fields of aeronautics and internal combustion engines. He earned a degree in engineering from the University of London and began his career as an assistant to the renowned engineer, Sir George Greenwood. In 1919, Ricardo established his own engineering consultancy, Ricardo Consulting Engineers, which would go on to become a global leader in advanced engineering and technology. Ricardo's work in aeronautics began in the 1920s, when he was appointed as the chief designer of the British Air Ministry's Research Establishment. There, he conducted pioneering research on the aerodynamics of wings and the design of jet engines. His work on jet engines led to the development of the first British jet engine, the W.1, which powered the Gloster E.28/39 prototype aircraft.
