Focke Wulf Stieglitz

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the sleek and powerful Focke-Wulf Fw44B Stieglitz, a transport aircraft that graced the skies during World War II. The Fw44B, named after the famous German expressionist painter Edwin Heinrich Landseer "Edward" Steichen, who was also known by his nickname Stieglitz, was a versatile aircraft designed to meet the demands of the German military for a transport plane capable of carrying troops and supplies over long distances. The Focke-Wulf Fw44B Stieglitz was a twin-engine, single-body transport aircraft with a distinctive streamlined design and a wingspan of 29.7 meters. It was equipped with retractable landing gear and could accommodate up to 28 passengers or 4,500 kilograms of cargo. The aircraft was powered by two BMW 132A radial engines, which provided a top speed of 255 kilometers per hour and a range of 1,500 kilometers. Despite its impressive capabilities, the Fw44B Stieglitz saw limited combat use during the war. It was primarily used for transporting troops and supplies to the Eastern Front, where it proved to be an essential asset for the German military. The aircraft's robust design and ability to operate from unpaved runways made it an ideal choice for transporting troops and supplies to remote locations. This photograph captures the Fw44B Stieglitz in all its glory, with its sleek lines and powerful engines on full display. The image offers a glimpse into the past, transporting us back to a time when aircraft like the Focke-Wulf Fw44B Stieglitz played a crucial role in the outcome of a global conflict. The Fw44B Stieglitz may no longer be in service, but its legacy lives on as a testament to the ingenuity and innovation of the engineers and designers who brought it to life.
