PH-AJA, also known as Arend, is a unique and intriguing aviation marvel, the only example ever built of the Fokker FXXXVI transport aircraft. This rare aircraft, manufactured by the Dutch aviation company Fokker, was designed and constructed in the late 1940s as a response to the need for a versatile and efficient transport plane for post-war Europe. The Fokker FXXXVI, with its distinctive elongated fuselage and twin tail, was intended to carry large cargo loads over long distances. Its advanced design featured a pressurized cabin, allowing for comfortable passenger travel at high altitudes. However, despite its innovative features, the Fokker FXXXVI never entered mass production due to financial difficulties faced by the company at the time. Arend, named after the Dutch word for "brave," was the only Fokker FXXXVI ever built. It first flew on March 15, 1949, and underwent extensive testing and modifications throughout the 1950s. The aircraft was eventually sold to the Dutch military, where it served as a transport and VIP transport plane until its retirement in the late 1960s. Today, Arend, now preserved in the Dutch Aviation Museum, stands as a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the Fokker company and its engineers. As the only surviving Fokker FXXXVI, it continues to inspire aviation enthusiasts and historians alike, offering a glimpse into the rich history of aviation design and innovation.
