The Gloster IV, also known as the Gloster Grebe I, was a two-seat biplane designed for long-distance flight and exploration. This particular aircraft would go on to make history as the first British aircraft to complete a transatlantic flight from east to west, piloted by Captain John Alcock and Lieutenant Arthur Brown in June 1919. In this image, N224 is seen in its pre-Venice configuration, prior to its historic flight across the Mediterranean Sea to Italy in 1927.
