EDITORS COMMENTS
This enchanting photograph captures a moment of timeless beauty and tradition from the Royal Wedding of Princess Marie Louise of Schleswig-Holstein in 1891. The young princess, dressed in an exquisite Victorian-era bridal gown, is being attended to by her bridesmaids before her marriage to Prince Aribert of Anhalt. The intricately designed Honiton point-lace used in the princess's gown holds a significant historical connection, as it was the same lace worn by her mother, Princess Helena, for her marriage 25 years earlier. This lace was a gift from the Prince Consort for Queen Victoria and adds a touch of regal elegance to the bridal ensemble. Princess Marie Louise's marriage to Prince Aribert was a grand affair, reflecting the opulence and grandeur of the Victorian era. However, the union was annulled in 1900 due to the discovery of Prince Aribert's previous marriage. Despite the unfortunate outcome, this photograph remains a captivating reminder of a bygone era, showcasing the intricate details of the princess's bridal attire and the tender moments shared between the bride and her bridesmaids.
