EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning photograph captures the moment when Queen Victoria, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, arrives at St. James Palace for the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess May of Teck, to her grandson, the Duke of York, on July 23, 1893. Princess May, later known as Queen Mary, had previously been engaged to the Duke's elder brother, Albert Victor, who tragically died from pneumonia just months before. With the support of the Queen and the British royal family, May was deemed a suitable match for the Duke, and the two were married in a grand ceremony at the palace. The image shows Queen Victoria, dressed in black mourning attire, making her way through the crowds of well-wishers and onlookers, accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting. The solemn procession adds to the sense of history and tradition surrounding this significant royal event. The photograph is a testament to the enduring power of the monarchy and the continuity of the British royal family through generations.
