Le Médecin Malgré Lui," a masterpiece by the renowned French playwright Molière, was first performed in Paris on January 17, 1666, during the 1660s, a time of great cultural and artistic flourishing in France. This scene from the play depicts a moment of hilarious deception and mistaken identity. At the heart of the story is Sganarelle, a bumbling and pompous doctor, who is determined to marry his patient, Angelique, despite her disinterest.
