Scene I: "Aloft in Love's Whimsical Car," two hearts intertwined form a rebus as a man in a dapper waistcoat and top hat gazes at a woman in a flowing gown, both suspended in a hot air balloon, their hands touching through the woven basket, the wind playfully ruffling their hair. The year is 1783, the dawn of aerial romance. 2. Scene II: "Rise, My Dear, to New Heights," a rebus of an arrow pointing upwards and a heart forming an arrowhead, symbolizes the ascent of affection as a man in a striped jacket and a woman in a bonnet, clutching a parasol, share a moment of excitement and anticipation while ascending in a tethered balloon, the landscape below unfurling beneath them. 3. Scéne III: "Tissandier's Tender Tango," a rebus of a balloon and a heart intertwined, pays homage to the pioneering Montgolfier brothers and their successor, Jean-Pierre Blanchard, who partnered with Jean-Marie-Joseph Tissandier in the late 1780s.
