The Short Sunderland, a British-designed long-range flying boat, was a crucial asset during World War II, serving primarily as a maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare aircraft. The 10th Squadron, formed in 1941, was one of several RAAF squadrons that operated the Short Sunderland from bases in the United Kingdom.
