This evocative photograph captures the enigmatic Scottish novelist, Robert Louis Stevenson, in his final days at his tropical retreat in Vailima, Samoa. Taken in 1894, just months before his untimely death at the age of 44, this image offers a poignant glimpse into the life of a man who had defied convention and sought adventure and inspiration in the most remote corners of the world. Born in Edinburgh in 1850, Stevenson was a prolific writer whose works, including "Treasure Island," "Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," and "Kidnapped," continue to captivate readers around the world.
