Avia S-199 Sakeen 112. T
Avia S-199 Sakeen 112.T (msn 782358), at the Israeli Air Force Museum, Hatzerim AFB, Israel. The Avia S-199 was produced by Avia after the war, by fitting the Jumo 211F to the Messerschmitt Bf 109G airframe. Avia had already produced the Avia S-99 version with the original Daimler Benz DB605 engine, but quickly ran out of stock of the engine. Fitting the Jumo 211, had the unfortunate effect of worsening the ground-handling of the already tricky S-99, due to the torque of the paddle-bladed propeller. Date: circa 1995

EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Avia S-199 Sakeen 112.T (msn 782358) on display at the Israeli Air Force Museum, located at Hatzerim AFB in Israel. The Avia S-199 was an intriguing post-war development by Avia, involving the adaptation of the Jumo 211F engine to the Messerschmitt Bf 109G airframe. Avia had previously produced the Avia S-99 version, which was powered by the original Daimler Benz DB605 engine. However, Avia soon exhausted their supply of the DB605 engines, leading them to fit the Jumo 211 instead. Unfortunately, this modification had the unintended consequence of worsening the already challenging ground handling of the S-99. The paddle-bladed propeller of the Jumo 211 generated significant torque, making the plane even more difficult to maneuver on the ground. The Avia S-199 Sakeen 112.T, with its distinctive markings and military livery, is a testament to the intricacies of aviation engineering and the evolving history of military aviation. This image, part of The Tony Lovelock Collection from Mary Evans Prints Online, offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the Avia S-199 Sakeen 112.T as a significant piece of aeronautical history.
