Truganini, also known as Truganina, Trugernanner, Lalla Rooke, or Lala Rookh, was the last surviving Tasmanian Aboriginal woman. Born around 1812, she was a member of the Palawa people, the original inhabitants of Tasmania. This poignant portrait captures Truganini in her later years, around 1866.
