Fashion 1960s A dress for the Alpine Bride. In a way it
Fashion 1960s
A dress for the Alpine Bride. In a way its a conventional wedding outfit. Its made in white satin and its sumptuous enough for any bridges taste. On the unconventional side the fox fur hood, the fur-trimmed boots, and the ski sticks instead of a bouquet. This winter wedding outfit, worn by model Patricia Donald-Smith, was the highlight of a skiwear fashion show held at the Dior boutique in London yesterday (Wednesday 17-11-65). The theme of the show was ski and after ski wear, and its difficult to see where a wedding dress fits into this scheme of things. But by tradition fashion shows and with a bride - and no one is going to complain at such a fairy tale fashion ending as this. Other highlights from the show were Turkish-style trousers wide at the knee, ankle-length white fur coasts, and patterned stockings with matching knee-length shorts. November 1965 P017539

EDITORS COMMENTS
Capturing the essence of 1960s fashion, this print showcases a stunning wedding outfit designed for the Alpine Bride. While it adheres to conventional bridal aesthetics with its white satin fabric and opulent details, there is an unconventional twist that sets it apart. The addition of a fox fur hood, fur-trimmed boots, and ski sticks in lieu of a bouquet adds an unexpected touch to this winter wedding ensemble. Model Patricia Donald-Smith gracefully dons this remarkable creation as she walks down the runway during a skiwear fashion show held at the Dior boutique in London on November 17th, 1965. The theme of the show revolved around ski and après-ski wear, making it intriguing how a wedding dress found its place within such context. However, tradition intertwines seamlessly with fashion shows when accompanied by a bride – leaving everyone enchanted by this fairytale-like ending. Among other highlights from the show were Turkish-style trousers featuring wide knees, ankle-length white fur coats exuding elegance, and patterned stockings paired with knee-length shorts for added flair. This photograph captures not only an iconic moment in fashion history but also embodies the spirit of innovation and creativity that defined the 1960s. Transport yourself back to this era through Memory Lane Prints' timeless image collection - relive moments like these where clothes became art forms and models transformed into muses.
