The Hon. Charles Rolls, holder of Royal Aero Club Certificate No.2, seen here flying his French built Wright bi-plane during the Bournemouth Aviation Week in July 1910. He was killed on 12 July while taking part in a competition for the slowest lap; part of the aircrafts tail-plane collapsed and he crashed from just 20 feet. On 2 June 1910 Rolls completed the first return flight across the English Channel, dropping a letter addressed to the Aero Club de France before he flew back to England.

. In this photo print, we witness the remarkable journey of The Hon. Charles Rolls, a man who left an indelible mark on both aviation and the motor industry. Captured during the Bournemouth Aviation Week in July 1910, we see him soaring through the skies in his French built Wright bi-plane. Tragically, just days after this photograph was taken, on 12 July 1910, Rolls met his untimely demise while participating in a competition for the slowest lap. As he gracefully maneuvered his aircraft from just 20 feet above ground level, disaster struck when part of the tail-plane collapsed leading to a devastating crash. However, it is important to remember that before this fateful event occurred, Charles Rolls had achieved significant milestones in aviation history.
