Ahoy there, Girls its the bell-bottom Bikini. The bell-bottom bikini hit London
Ahoy there, Girls its the bell-bottom Bikini. The bell-bottom bikini hit London yesterday (Tuesday 6-7-65). And so did the stripey beach-pyjama look. Models Christine Harris (in the bell-bottoms) and Anne Phillips stopped traffic in Mayfair when they showed off these designs by second-year students at Hornsey College of Art, London. Rebel students at that - because they want to bring back the flouncy fashions of the 1940s. The bikini set, designed by Cherstin Ohlson, and the pants-and-top, by Kathleen Wilmott will be the star turns at a fashion show being held by the college today (Wednesday 7-7-65). July 1965 P008011

EDITORS COMMENTS
. This iconic print captures a fashion revolution that hit London on Tuesday, July 6th, 1965. The streets of Mayfair were brought to a standstill as models Christine Harris and Anne Phillips showcased these daring designs by rebellious second-year students from Hornsey College of Art. Breaking free from the constraints of contemporary trends, these young visionaries sought to revive the flouncy fashions of the 1940s. In this image, Christine Harris dons the bell-bottom bikini while Anne Phillips flaunts the stripey beach-pyjama look. Their audacious outfits turned heads and stopped traffic in their tracks. Designed by Cherstin Ohlson and Kathleen Wilmott respectively, these ensembles are set to steal the spotlight at an upcoming fashion show hosted by Hornsey College today, Wednesday, July 7th. This photograph encapsulates a moment when rebellion met nostalgia on London's vibrant streets. The boldness of these designs challenges societal norms and embraces individuality with flair. As women's clothing evolves into uncharted territory during this transformative era, it is clear that fashion has become a powerful form of self-expression. Join us on Memory Lane as we celebrate this snapshot from history—a testament to creativity and defiance in an ever-changing world. Let us remember those who fearlessly pushed boundaries through their artistry and paved the way for future generations to express themselves boldly through fashion choices that reflect their unique personalities
