Capt William Leafe Robinson VC Captain William Leefe Robinson

Capt William Leafe Robinson VC
Captain William Leefe Robinson, recipient of the highest award for valour Britain can give, the Victoria Cross. On the night of the 2/3rd of September, Lieut. William Robinson spied a fleet of German Zeppelins flying over Cuffley in Hertfordshire. He closed on the fleet from below, getting to within 500ft of the nearest airship before firing several rounds into the side of the massive dirigible. He turned his aircraft away from the ship and prepared to close in for another attack, but as he did so noticed to his astonishment that the craft had exploded into flames. For this tremendous acheivement he was promoted to Captain and awarded the VC. Sadly, Captain Robinson died two years later, on the 31st of December 1918.
