Picture shows the dramatic rescue of the crew of the Sea Venture after it was a attacked by a German U-boat of the Kriegsmarine in English waters during the Second World War.
Funnel, bridge and lifeboats were wrecked and the crew took to the boats before being rescued by the RAF.
The U-boat continued to fire on the sinking ship but submerged immediately when an RAF British seaplane appeared.
The nose of the plane can bee seen in the picture, approaching the Sea Venture.
Here the plane has landed by the side of the crew. Afterwards the pilot directed a lifeboat to rescue the crew.
